The New Directions Multicultural Multimedia program is a highly creative, fun-infused program that encourages participants to make healthy choices and develop leadership skills for becoming advocates for positive change within their family, school, and community. Students have the opportunity to engage with teaching artists (visual, literary, performing) and facilitators who are passionate about helping young people reach their full potential. Through the course of speaking circles, mentoring by professional artists, and personal and public art projects, students have the opportunity to:

  • Build resiliency
  • Find their voice
  • Deepend cultural awareness
  • Become a positive role model
  • Discuss issues they care about
  • Increase self-awareness and creative expression

New Directions promotes public art as a vital and significant advocacy and social change tool that fosters pride and compassion in the young artists as they learn the value of giving back to their community. In turn, public art offers inspiration and insight to all who pass by, offering a point for important social conversations for the community, deepening their sense of place.
